Bãi Cháy, Hạ Long

Regarding the origin of the name Bãi Cháy, records say that Hạ Long once had a sandy beach where local people would burn boats to prevent barnacles from attaching to and damaging them. The name “Bãi Cháy” is said to have originated from this practice. Others believe that, long ago, soldiers and civilians of the Trần Dynasty burned the bodies of invading Mongol Yuan troops that had washed ashore, and the fire spread to the neighboring forest, giving Bãi Cháy its name.

Bãi Cháy is one of Hạ Long's three main tourist areas. It serves as the link between Tuần Châu Island and Hòn Gai , and is known as the center of Hạ Long city. From here, all of Quảng Ninh's major attractions are within easy reach. Thanks to its highly desirable prime location, Bãi Cháy is usually busy and lively, with many tourist entertainment activities taking place every day. Entertainment here often continues late into the night, attracting large numbers of visitors.
