Co Vien Lau, one of the tourist destinations belonging to Trang An - Ninh Binh tourist complex, has been over 1000 years old. After the renovation in 1990, the ancient houses were listed in World’s relics, recognized by UNESCO as a World cultural heritage.
With an area of 22,000 m2, it is next to Tam Coc - Bich Dong boat wharf, the East borders on Thai Vi Street, the West borders the Ngo Dong River, the North borders the Cua Quen mountain valley, and the South is near Tam Coc boat wharf.
Co Vien Lau fascinates tourists with its peaceful scenes of green areca arrays and northern ancient houses.

After its reconstruction in 1990, Co Vien Lau became one of the ideal tourist destinations for both local and distant travelers. In order to visit here, you just pay 50,000 VND each person. Luu Phuong ancient house
This house has an area of about 90 m2, designed with 5 compartments and 2 side rooms, emphasizing on salmon-brick floor. The house was formed by Sapele wood from Thanh Hoa province.
The patterns on walls and pillars were engraved in sophisticated technique by professional craftsmen, giving an unique ancient feature of the house.
Y Yen ancient house
The Y Yen ancient house is located in Y Yen commune, Nam Dinh province. It was built in 1883, presenting many ancient items like dishes, bowls, tureens, etc. from the Ly dynasty, 12th and 13th centuries. Coming here, you will have a chance to observe the items used in the ancient palace.
Tho Xuan ancient house
Here is the house displaying more than 100 unique dragon big jars in 1802, Gia Long King period. With an area of 111.7 m2, Tho Xuan ancient house was designed in an extremely special architecture ancient style of Northern Vietnam, including 3 compartments, 2 sub-houses and 2 ancient showrooms. All of them have created a unique roof style.
This is one of the most featured styles for ancient house design that you should not miss when visiting Co Vien Lau.
Khanh Hoa ancient house
This is the only place which keeps Dai Khoa architecture, a similar design style with Tho Xuan ancient house. With an area of 103.6 m2, Khanh Hoa ancient house exhibits horizontal lacquer boards, distiches, wood collapses, cupboards, etc. at the age of more than 100 years old, from 18th or 19th centuries.
Rural ancient house
It represents a distinctive feature of the architectural style of Vietnamese peasants during that era. In the ancient village, the architectural style of houses reflects the unique characteristics of the rural working class in the early 19th century.
The house is often including 3 main compartments, 2 rooms, clay floor, leaf roof and bamboo fences. The small yard contains the necessary stuff like haystack hillock, clay vessel, and stone pounder, etc. to picture a rural, simple and peaceful scene of Vietnam villages.
