The Railway Tunnel – A breath of the past amid Đà Lạt’s mountains and forests

The Railway Tunnel is not only a historic relic but also a captivating stop for travelers who love exploration and new experiences. Around 18–20 km from central Đà Lạt, on National Highway 20 in Đa Thọ Hamlet, Xuân Trường Commune, the tunnel was once an important part of the unique cog railway connecting Ga Đà Lạt with Ga Tháp Chàm, marking a chapter in the development of the Lâm Đồng Highlands.

Today, the Railway Tunnel has a wild, mysterious and timeworn beauty, its moss-covered stones seeming to recount stories from the days when trains passed through. The original 84 km railway was built by the French from 1908, and only this section of tunnel now remains. Its abandoned, moss-covered appearance has turned it into an ideal check-in spot where visitors can enjoy nature while sensing the breath of history.

To reach it from central Đà Lạt, travel toward Trại Mát and look for the sign marked “Đường Hầm Hỏa Xa”. A small café nearby offers parking and a place to enjoy a cup of coffee. Just a few steps through the dense trees, the old railway tunnel gradually comes into view, inviting you to explore.
