Lý Thái Tổ Flower Garden, Hà Nội

Chí Linh Flower Garden is another name for Lý Thái Tổ Flower Garden, now home to the monument to King Lý Thái Tổ (974 – 1028), who founded the imperial capital of Thăng Long. Lý Thái Tổ Flower Garden stands beside Hoàn Kiếm Lake, between Đinh Tiên Hoàng, Lê Lai, Lê Thạch, and Ngô Quyền streets. Covering approximately 12.153, 5m2, the garden features plenty of trees, the Lý Thái Tổ monument, an octagonal pavilion, and a spacious recreation area.

Lý Thái Tổ Flower Garden once formed part of the grounds of Phổ Giác Pagoda. After occupying Hà Nội and receiving the concession area from the Nguyễn court (1874), the French planned to redevelop the district. In 1883, they ultimately decided to move Phổ Giác Pagoda to the far end of Ngô Sĩ Liên Street, using the former site to build the square that is now the flower garden, the mayor's office that is now the headquarters of the City People's Committee, the treasury that is now VietinBank, the Residence of the Tonkin Governor that is now the Government Guesthouse, and today's post office.
