Chùa Đức Hậu, Sóc Sơn

When people mention the suburban district of Sóc Sơn, they often immediately think of Chùa Đức Hậu, a popular cultural and tourist attraction. This sacred historical monument lies on the outskirts of Hà Thành, about 40km from the center of Hà Nội.

Its distinctive architectural complex, rich historical significance and renown have earned praise from many international newspapers. The site has gradually become a place where visitors come to admire its artistry and learn about the long-standing culture of northern Việt Nam's countryside.

Chùa Đức Hậu forms part of the Đình - Chùa Đức Hậu monument complex, comprising a temple and a communal house located side by side. To date, no records have been found documenting when the temple was founded. However, based on its architectural style and decorative motifs, many experts believe it may have been built during the Later Lê Restoration period (late 17th century - early 18th century).

Having weathered countless historic upheavals, the entire Đình - Chùa Đức Hậu complex has witnessed the nation's many changes through the ages and become a symbol of the culture, traditions and history of the people of Đức Hậu.

The temple grounds are wonderfully peaceful

With its familiar location and layout, Chùa Đức Hậu displays the characteristic features of Vietnamese temple architecture. Like many other temples, it has a front hall and upper sanctuary. Beside it stands the Đức Hậu communal house, believed to worship the generals Trương Hống and Trương Hát, who fought the Liang invaders during the reigns of Lý Nam Đế and Triệu Việt Vương.

Chùa Đức Hậu always brings a profound sense of peace

Both the temple and the communal house have a serene, dignified appearance and have stood firm through the passage of time. They are places where descendants of Đức Hậu and visitors from near and far come to show their respect and gratitude. On 10/03/1994, Chùa Đức Hậu was designated an Architectural and Artistic Monument by the Ministry of Culture and Information.
